There is a lot of emphasis on maintaining a youthful appearance but what are the best ways to do this? As consumers, we spend billions per year on products and treatments to slow down aging. There are many reasons why our skin ages and for some quicker than others. We know that as we age, collagen production decreases and fibres degrade at a faster rate than in earlier years. This leads to a reduction in the amount of collagen in the skin/dermis and these areas of less support begin to cave in and wrinkles form.

Whenever we ask a new client about their history, or someone we just met at the gym about what they do to stay in shape, it’s almost certain they will mention an injury, a chronic pain or a lack of mobility they are or have been dealing with. That being said, it’s a simple fact of life that injuries and pain will occur for everyone at some point. But just like you can make positive steps to improve your health and strength, you can work towards reducing and eliminating these issues. If you’re reading this and you’re experiencing these issues, ask yourself, “Am I doing everything I can to fix this?”. For 95% of you, the answer in your head is probably “no”. Which leads us to your first step.
Consequentially, our sedentary lifestyles are one of the top five contributors to our risk for cardiovascular diseases such as atherosclerosis, heart attack, ischemic stroke etc. (Statistics Canada, 2015). On a global scale, (shockingly) more people die annually from cardiovascular diseases (around 17.5 million) then any other diseases including starvation (World Health Organization, 2016). Regular physical activity can decrease the risk and prevent of cardiovascular disease by improving your body’s ability to metabolize sugar, promotes weight reduction, and reduces blood pressure (Statistics Canada, 2015). So why aren’t we doing it? “ I have no time” is the most common reasons behind Canadian’s lack of physical activity.

Sometimes you hit those bumps in the road…and you wonder if the people surrounding you believe in you, but more importantly do you believe in yourself? If you’ve felt this way before, you’re not alone. Coming from a competitive athletic background I’ve experienced this feeling on a few occasions in particular right at this very moment. At the end of October 2016, I met Andrew he told me he used to exercise and play sports regularly and that his diet had usually consisted of clean healthy food. He said that despite his exercise history and attraction to a healthy lifestyle, that somewhere along his journey through being an awesome dad and managing all the things that come with having two amazing kids, his exercise and eating routines began to change and altogether became something he left on the back burner for when he had time; something that can easily happen when you are busy and exhausted from raising a family.
It’s important to staying hydrated not just doing your workouts but through your whole day. Below are 3 easy tips to stay hydrated.
1-When you exercise you lose a lot water through sweating, which it is why it’s important to remember to stay well hydrated during your work outs and throughout your day. Dehydration has many effects on the body including cramps, fatigue, headaches and dizziness. Not a fan of plain old water? Try herbal tea (hot or cold), coconut water (which contains electrolytes, which you also sweat out during exercise) or try squeezing some lemon or lime into your water/coconut water for a little more flavor and an extra boost of Vitamin C.
