As I began to feel better about myself. I found I became more confident, I tried more things and ventured out more. Instead of smelling the stinky stuff I started to smell the roses. I began to see all the beauty around me. Although I still get worried, anxious and sad it is considerably less. Life has its ups and downs. We are all on a journey which is often wrought with trials and tribulations but if we can slog our way through those we come out so much stronger and confident!!! I know that is so very true for myself and my own journey. Life has a way of sucking us dry and making us cry.
I have discovered that for me, exercise has helped immensely!!!! WOW who knew?!?!? I used to hate exercise. I would rather poke my eyes out with a fork then exercise!!! But I have found something that I LOVE TO DO!!!! Weightlifting!!!! A 50 year old lifting weights?!?! Seriously?!?! Let me tell you something….it is very empowering and you feel amazing!!
There is no better feeling then beating your best bicep curl, lat pulldown, shrug (that’s for you Stuart), or squat!!!! And if you don’t know what any of those are then give me a chance to train you and I will share my love of weightlifting with you!! Weightlifting has SO many benefits: increased bone density which is very important as we age, helps with anxiety and depression, and increase in strength. Don’t worry women you won’t look like a ‘He-She’ I promise!!!!
Aside from exercise I love to stop and smell the roses. I take lots of pics on my phone of the beautiful things around me. It’s a reminder that life isn’t about a bucket of stinky stuff but rather about taking time to smell the roses and enjoy the many wonderful things it has to offer. And when I do face those trials and tribulations I get myself to the gym and work that much harder!!
Are you tired of smelling stinky stuff and want to smell the roses? We can help you at Turnfit. Perhaps weightlifting is not your thing? Don’t worry when it comes to exercise there are lots of wonderful options and we will find one that suits you and your lifestyle. You are worth it!!! And it’s time to start smelling those wonderful roses!!
WHERE DO I START?????
Now that you have decided that you want to try this horrible beast called Exercise you are probably wondering ‘Where do I start?’ First I want to tell you that over five years ago I started from scratch. I DID NOT EVEN KNOW WHAT A BICEP CURL WAS!! I am not kidding!!! And yet today I am lifting more weight than I could have ever imagined I could!! I quickly learnt how very important it is to make sure that I build a strong foundation. If you have never exercised before, or haven’t for some time, then you need our help.
Everyone knows when you start running you can’t just go out and run a marathon with no training. The same goes for resistance training in the gym, or any type of training. You have to start at the beginning. Building the foundation can be the hardest part as it takes time but it is also what can prevent potential future injury. For example, if you are not doing a squat correctly then when you start getting to heavier weights there is a much larger increase in possibly injury. Squatting the bar on its own is a lot less stress on your body than squatting the bar with 180lbs on it. Running for five minutes is a lot less stress than running for one hour. So it is important to start at the beginning and to build up.
I started bodybuilding almost two years ago. In the beginning I started with very light weights and it has taken two years of hard work to get to what I can lift now. I am proud to say that my best squat is 325lbs, Lat pulldown is 210lbs, Seated row is 180lbs, Leg press is 1000lbs (yes that is one THOUSAND pounds!). And did I say I was a 50 year old woman?!?! I AM proud of what I have accomplished but it has taken almost two years of hard work to get there. I could never have gotten to those weights though if I hadn’t started at the beginning and built a strong foundation. So far I have been fortunate to not have any major injuries *Knock on wood* but I owe that all to my trainers and coaches who guided me in the beginning and showed me how to build a strong foundation. Yes even trainers sometimes need trainers!!
If you have decided that it is time you got off the couch and gave up your bon bons (which by the way you can still do on occasion) but you don’t know where to start then give Turnfit a call. We can help you get started on building a strong foundation so that you can meet any and all the goals you have dreamt about!!!
